project week

if you know me at all, you know that i thrive on routine.  i love following the rhythms that i've set up for us each day during the week.  life just seems to flow easier and we all get along better and the house stays tidier when we are functioning inside of our routines.

project week, day one: viking ships.  avery stuck with me to the end......

it was fun finding little sets with vikings and their ships.....

that being said, i know that so much learning and growing and FUN happen outside of routine, going on adventures, doing projects, ect.  i knew going into this year that if i wanted us to do projects, go on field trips and the like, i would have to be very intentional about making it happen.

project week, day two: welcome fall party.

craft projects and field trips do not naturally fit into our "regularly scheduled program" and i know myself well enough to know that those things will not happen spur of the moment (it's just so much easier to stay home and do math....i'm so boring) and let's face it, i cannot get our math and language done with enough emotional energy to spare to also do a project or a field trip.  for me, it's either normal routine or it's a "special day".  and normal routine wins most of the time.

project week, day 3: field trip.  bibles for the world, sailing our viking ships, used book store fun.

insert operation "project week".   i'll admit.  it was kind of a painful week.  it was messier and louder and busier than i normally like my weeks to be.  but i was excited for my kids.   i am hoping to do this maybe 3 or 4 more times this year. take a whole week off of school and do projects and field trips that maybe coincide with the season, or our history, or maybe it doesn't coincide at all. we'll see.

project week, day 4: nature hike.

it was SO foggy the morning we did this hike.  it was kind of eerie and we kept talking about how we felt like we were in a fairy tale.  we saw two people the whole time.

avery made little check lists of things for us to find. ian is checking some stuff off of his list.

the girls did a project week journal that documented our first project week.  just seeing how cute those turned out is pretty motivating for me to do it again.

one page from avery's project week notebook.

  2. It's fun to see what you guys are up to this year. We are homeschooling and I'm trying to find the best ways to add the "fun" without feeling overwhelmed trying fitting it all in. This is a great idea! Hope you are doing well!

    1. Linds! So great to hear from you! It is a lot to try to fit it all in isn't it? Project week helps me not feel guilty for loving our normal routine so much. 😉
