the one about daydreaming

it was cold and windy and snowing this morning as my three traipsed down the stairs and muttered things like "isn't it supposed to be spring?"

we're all a little grumpy about the gray dreary weather. we want to be done with both winter and school and this weather makes us feel like those dreams are far, far away.

and so we made a big breakfast. ian is a stellar strawberry slicer. and i'm letting the kids linger in their imaginary worlds for a bit longer before we break open the math books. i'm tidying up the kitchen now, with katrina kenison's wise words ringing in my ears.

"there is no such thing as a charmed life, not for any of us, no matter where we live or how mindfully we attend to the tasks at hand. but there are charmed moments, all the time, in every life and in every day, if we are only awake enough to experience them when they come and wise enough to appreciate them."

"watch and listen carefully. do they have time to daydream? for from their dreams will emerge the practices and activities that will make self-discipline as natural as breathing."

did you catch that? self discipline begins with daydreaming.

what a lovely thing to ponder.
