every single day

on wednesday afternoon while ashton and ian slept, i was working with avery on her awana verse.

"Jesus came into the world to save sinners."  1 Timothy 1:15

i had motions and a little rhythm going to help her remember.  (i keep telling myself to start working on the verse before the day she has to know it....someday i'll do that.)

so, i'm making her say it over and over and then she asks this:

"mom, what does it mean that He saved us?"

i immediately go into an explanation that went something like "well, you know, so we can go to heaven when we die....that's what it means that we're saved."

and then i heard Him nudge my spirit:

"wait, is that it?  is that all I came to do for you?  don't forget.  don't get stuck in that basic theology.
do you remember those moments when you are this close to yelling and losing your patience?
I came to save those moments.

and when the desire to defend had you crippled with anger and you were this close to taking over and taking control away from Me?
I came to save that moment.

and this season when your financial security is flipped upside down and somehow you are managing to have peace?
it's because I'm saving you.

yes, yes, heaven is real and awesome and to get to be in My presence for eternity is going to be something else, but I came for more than the future, I came for this present moment. to save you from yourself.  to save you from your own cloudy perspective.  to save you from getting in the way of the peace, the hope and the joy that I have for you right now."

and i looked at avery and said:

"baby, Jesus came so that He could save us every single day."
